helloooo...im still here *waving* have been completely MIA for the past few days coz of work & some other stupid stuff...and now im back with a major work rant! and i promise u there is going to be swearing...if ur delicate like that - pliss to close window now!
my boss (henceforth referred to as "the man") who is a good 10 yrs my senior in work experience is so fucking insecure about his job!!!
today even tho his boss (my skip line manager - henceforth S) specifically asked me to do some work...as soon as we are out of his cabin, the man says,
The Man: call person A from HK and person B from Korea - they should be able to help you
Me: okay will give them a call...S said to check if person C has the info...will shoot him an email as well!
TM: ohh actually I can talk to person C (thats his ex-manager) - i need to catch up with him on some other stuff as well...
Me: hmm okay - ill email A & B
(my phone rings then and once im done talking to a friend)
TM: actually ill drop an email to A & B as well!
Me: and you'll speak to C??
TM: yep.
Me: okay.
see my point?? he is like the 5 year old kid who wants to do EVERTHING himself! he wants to get involved in the macro big stuff which is technically his job...and the micro BAU stuff which is supposed to be my job...but nope he has to oversee and run through everything before it steps an inch out of my hands! wtf?!?!

im just so fucking frustrated with his entire attitude..! there is a reason why there are two people in this team - because there is that much work! there is supposed to be an even distribution of work between the two of us...and he has decided that he wants to bloody do everything! he wants to be an analyst and a manager and a critique and god knows what else!
and after all this, when he is unusually bogged down by unnecessary work (like pending emails from me which he has to check and revert so that i can carry on with my job) and im taking a break coz i have nothing to do till i can be allowed to do my job - he has the audacity to give me a lecture on being proactive! wtf!! how the fuck am i supposed to be proactive when im not even given the space to send one measly email without his comments!!!
ive had enough...ive been working for the past 3 years and even tho i might still be a junior person in the overall team - i am NOT a fresher who has no idea what she is doing!
im giving this 2 more months...if i dont see any clarity on my internal job movement till then...well then its time to dust out my old CV and begin job hunting all over again..!! i refuse to work in an environment where i hate entering in the morning and cant wait for the clock to strike 5:30pm so I have a valid reason to leave!

hehehe... sorry but can’t help lol.:) :) Your post is really hilarious. Yeah it’s sad to come across somebody who behaves as if he is a 5 year old child who wants to do everything.
there are some people in this world who have an illusion that no one else can handle the work better than themselves. How can they ever know whether they are right or wrong unless they give a chance to others? :) It is a sad thing that some people cant believe in the potential of others.
Unfortunately you are witnessing one such person in your daily life. Why don’t you discuss about the issue with him once and if he is still the same, either you can escalate it to his seniors or else you can think of putting the papers down. It doesn’t mean that if he is like that you have to take everything silently. After all you have a right to stay there or leave the place right? But don’t pay much attention to him now.
Actually I was expecting you to be in a super happy mood of going home but now it turned out completely different.
Anyways I hope this trip home will make you strong to cope with such difficulties. I’m waiting to hear updates about the beaches and whether how you go behind your mom this time holding her saree when she is on phone :) :)

@ Asif: no the thing is that talking to him about it will only make things worse...office politics are such that sometimes saying stuff as it actually is may cause issues...for now am just gonna try to ignore....and am trying to move to a diff dept...hopefully *cross my fingers* that should happen soon!

It is never a good idea to work under a manger who micro-manages you.. You will get nothing good out of it..
So I am with you when you say that you start looking for a new job..

yep temme about it! i dont understand people who micro-manage...shouldnt they learn to let go?!?!
anyways have started job hunting internally in the organization...hopefully something will work out soon!

one of the management lessons is to train the juniors to handle your work so that you can move on to take up new responsibilty. but insecurity and also lack of capability to handle next level responisibilty make people cling to old work. may be you should have a discussion with him once , frankly , may be ou can tactfully voice your concern in a mail
and later if required also talk to your Skip manager.
leaving a job for a person may not be a good idea as you might end being with another such AH in your next office , try handling him through proper channel.. but we very polite and diplomatic , like you want to handle more responsibilty and want his guidance and blah blah the management jargon :)good luck
@ Preeti: i did have a discussion with my skip line manager and told him very subtly that i cant get along with this guy and cant work with him!
for now am waiting for some sort of internal movement to happen! i really like my skip line manager and would have loved to stay in this current team...if only my imm manager was not such an ass!
